What type of nanny is right for you?
Not all nannies are the same, but they do all share one common requirement to qualify. Nannies in Australia must, by law, meet a standard of work experience in years and have clear security checks to work as nannies in your home. With that being said, it’s still important to note that nannies differ in the skills they can offer and the specialities they chose to work in. Some nannies are skilled in developmental and learning practices for children with special needs and other nannies qualify as nurses because they’ve undergone formal medical training that is involved in post-natal care or general childcare. At Night and Day Nannies, we believe that our team consists of two main types of nannies. We believe this because finding the specialization is much easier if we can clearly separate them into two categories of service first. Your choices are a maternity nanny or a babysitter. A maternity nanny will offer care for parents and their newborn child for a few weeks and are skilled in a range of services. Our professional babysitters offer childcare for children at any other stage of their growth and offer similar but not all of the same services as a maternity nanny. If you are not sure what type of nanny you need for your family, we have an article for you.

How much does it cost to hire a nanny?
Australian workplace laws and The Fair Work Ombudsman most basically define that nannies must be paid per hour for their services. The basic rate is around $30 per hour plus any other fees that factor into the cost. Just like with all other jobs, the rate of pay for a nanny can change according to these variables:
The nanny’s experience and level of expertise –
Whether nannies operate as employees, independent contractors or agency hires
- The range of hours – full time, part-time or casual
- If the nanny works outside typical working hours, evenings, weekends and public holidays because this will call for higher fees.
- Using nannies through an agency will come with an additional fee because the agency does the work of verifying their expertise, experience and security requirements.
